my next build was for a Halloween costume. i used a few different techniques for this build, but so far this has been my favorite one to do. i started with the helmet wich was a card model and then fiberglassed
i decided to go a bit off piste and didnt go with the normal gears of war colours i designed my own. it turned out pretty well though in hindsight i probably should have stuck with the original colours. i never liked the blue and black combo i didnt feel it was halloween enough i wanted it to be darker so i chose red and black. but the problem was when adding the blood later on for the final paint effect it was dificult to tell there was blood on there because of the red colour scheme
again ive gone for the distressed look, only because i feel the worn out look makes it look used and therefore more realistic.
i added a ew details such as the air vents at the back u can see i added a wire mesh just togive it more of a realistic scifi feel. i also went ahead and added LED lights to the eyes to have them lightup when wearing it
next is the body armour, for this i used a totally different technique. i decided to go the route of using foam sheets, more specifically foam floor tiles. i custom made this part from scratch just goin by various pictures i found on the internet. I started out with a very basic form just gettin the right shapes. all glued together with a hot glue gun
next i took a soldering iron to burn in the various details and battle damage. it turned out pretty good especially when i got the paint done
i added a few more details as well as a few LED lights and the armour was complete
in the game each character also has rather large almost comical boots and shin guards. i wanted to create them but thought it would look a little silly, instead i went and purchased some kickboxing shin guards that where perfect for the costume. i painted them up black added my own logo to make them look scifi and they looked perfect
the final part is the gun. i found a model online that was designed to be around 6 inches long...way to small for what i needed, but it was accurately proportioned so it was just a case of blowing it up roughly 4 times as big. rather than building it out of thin card stock i wanted to give it a more realistic feel, large metal plates welded/joined together to make the gun model, so after printing it in card i cut the final pieces out of much thicker mount board and after glueing everything together along with a little decoupage techniques i gave it a light coat of resin and then paint
